Robert Penfold, Ph.D.
Rob Penfold, Ph.D., is an instructor in the Department of Population Medicine. He received his doctorate in Geography at the University of Toronto and completed postdoctoral training in pediatric mental health services at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. His research focuses on the utilization of psychotropic medications, particularly among children insured by Medicaid. Dr. Penfold is currently funded by the NIMH to study the formation of geographic clusters in the uptake of new psychotropic medications. He is working with the Drug Policy Research Group in evaluating the effects of high deductible health plans on the utilization of antidepressants and the effects of prior authorization policies on psychotropic medication utilization for children less than 6 years old.
