Jim Sabin, MD
Dr. Sabin is a Clinical Professor of both Ambulatory Care/Prevention and Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Ethics Program. As Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Ethics Program, Dr. Sabin is responsible for a nationally recognized, highly innovative organizational ethics program firmly based in a managed care system. Dr. Sabin is extensively involved in research, teaching, and policy development for managed care and other population-based approaches. His major research interests are in organizational ethics, the clinical and theoretical aspects of fair resource allocation, and the role of consumers in overseeing health policy and practice. Dr. Sabin has written more than 125 articles and chapters on clinical practice, resource allocation, and the ethics of managed health care. No Margin, No Mission: Health Care Organizations and the Quest for Ethical Excellence, written with Steven Pearson and Ezekiel Emanuel, was published by Oxford University Press in 2003. Setting Limits Fairly, written with Norman Daniels and first published in 2002, was published in a second edition by Oxford University Press in 2008. In 2002 the practical impact of this work was recognized by the American Association of Community Psychiatrists Moffic Award for Ethical Practice in Public Sector Managed Behavioral Healthcare.
