Muriel Gillick, MD

Dr. Muriel Gillick is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Population Medicine. Her scholarly interests are in health care policy and ethical issues near the end of life. In addition to publishing articles in the medical literature, she has written four books for a general audience discussing ethical, medical, and other issues arising in old age. Her most recent book is The Denial of Aging: Perpetual Youth, Eternal Life, and Other Dangerous Fantasies (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 2006).

Dr. Gillick graduated from Swarthmore College, obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital, with geriatrics training at Boston University School of Medicine. She was previously Physician-in-Chief at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged, a teaching nursing home in Boston, and Director of the Harvard Geriatrics Fellowship Program. Dr. Gillick has a clinical practice with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates providing palliative care consultation.
