About the Fellowship
The Thomas O. Pyle Fellowship was created by the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Harvard University in honor of Thomas Pyle, who was Chief Executive Officer of Harvard Community Health Plan for many years and a leader in the Harvard and Boston communities. The Fellowship is intended to support scholarly work that contributes to the development of health care policy at any of several levels - public, organizational, or clinical. The level of funding is based on the applicant’s experience and financial needs.
The Fellowship provides one year of salary support in accordance with the DPM Fellowship stipend scale; up to $5,000 for research-related expenses; and a professional allowance of $1,500. If there are additional salary requirements, please include this information in the application for consideration by the Committee.
We are dedicated to the goal of fostering a culturally diverse department committed to working in a multicultural environment. Candidates from underrepresented minority backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
Physicians, post-doctorates, and Ph.D. candidates are eligible if they are committed to health services research, will perform the proposed fellowship work under the mentorship of a faculty member appointed in the Department of Population Medicine, and require funding to support an additional year of study or their first year as a faculty member. Candidates must have the support of DPM faculty mentor who has agreed to serve as their fellowship mentor before submitting an application. For more information on faculty, or to contact a potential faculty mentor, visit our Faculty page.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a letter of no more than two pages describing plans for the fellowship year. Two letters of recommendation should be sent under separate cover. All interested applicants currently based outside the Department of Population Medicine should contact Sheila_Fireman@harvardpilgrim.org prior to preparing an application.
We are no longer accepting applications for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please check back in the Fall.
