Richard Platt, MD, MSc, is the recipient of the 2016 SHEA Mentor Scholar Award in recognition of his distinguished record in mentoring fellows and junior faculty, many of whom have gone on to be leaders in infection prevention and healthcare epidemiology. The SHEA Mentor Scholar Award is intended to honor an individual recognized for his/her dedication and excellence in mentoring trainees in infection prevention and control. Nominees must be recognized for their impact on education in infection prevention and control. As part of the nomination process, letters from mentees were submitted.
The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) promotes science and research, advocates for effective policies, provides high-quality education and training, and develops appropriate guidelines and guidance in practice. SHEA has helped define best practices in healthcare epidemiology worldwide since its founding in 1980.
