Job Description

The Research Scientist I will join the Biostatistics Center and collaborate with investigators at DPM in ongoing research projects. The Research Scientist I will work with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, epidemiologists, project managers, programmers, and analysts. The Research Scientist I will have opportunities to participate in statistical methods and tool development activities to help improve statistical analyses and inference and co-author scientific publications. The Research Scientist I will receive mentoring and guidance from experienced faculty biostatisticians with in-depth statistical expertise on a variety of topics including causal inference methods for time-fixed and time-varying treatment settings, missing data, time-series analysis, and design and analysis of cluster randomized trials. The Research Scientist I can also have a non-faculty, academic appointment with Harvard Medical School, and will be entitled to an annual travel fund to attend professional conferences. Title will be determined based on experience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist investigators in the DPM with study design, statistical analyses, and methodological questions related to their research projects, both pre- and post-award.
  • Devote effort to specific research grants as a collaborating statistician-investigator; Provide statistical input on the design, analysis, and dissemination of the study results including the application of appropriate statistical and methodological techniques.
  • Lead in drafting, revising, and finalizing statistical analysis plans, as well as perform data analysis.
  • Develop functional specifications and work with programmer/analyst to implement new methods, develop new analytic tools, or enhance existing tools functionalities and outputs.
  • Participate in writing interim and final deliverables, including reports and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Mentor and assist fellows and junior faculty with their research projects, from design to analyses.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field. Three to five years of experience is preferred in health care research, industry, consulting, government, an academic environment, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform above duties and responsibilities.
  • Prior experience with advanced pharmacoepidemiologic methods, such as propensity score-based approaches, is desired.
  • Strong computational skills and programming that enable data visualization is desired.
  • Prior experience with sequential analytic methods is preferred.
  • Prior experience with large electronic healthcare databases (administrative claims data in particular) and multi-center studies is preferred.
  • Also required: excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently; knowledge of study design, research methodology and statistical analysis; strong organizational and problem solving skills.
