
Olesya Baker, PhD
Research Focus
Olesya Baker is a Research Scientist in the Division of Health Policy and Insurance Research (HPI) at the Department of Population Medicine. Prior to joining HPI in 2021, she worked in the Division of Health Policy within the Department of Emergency Medicine and also at the Center for Clinical Investigation, both at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her previous research has focused on healthcare policy in the U.S. emergency care system as well as the safety of opioid prescribing. At HPI, she has been involved in studies of health insurance, health workforce policies, and maternal health. Olesya received her PhD in Economics from Boston University and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Health Policy in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her graduate training focused on areas of policy research and quasi-experimental methodologies.
