PROBIT I
June 1996-December 1997
PROBIT's randomized intervention significantly increased the duration and exclusivity of breastfeeding. Infants at intervention sites were more likely to be exclusively breastfed at 3 and 6 months and were less likely to experience gastrointestinal infections or atopic eczema during their first year of life. Researchers found no adverse effects associated with exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months.
