Identifying Causal Mechanisms of Metabolites in Family-based Association Studies of Childhood Asthma

Asthma has both genetic and environmental risk factors and therefore, metabolites play a key role. However, the path from gene to metabolite to disease remains unclear and requires further study. Given the high rate of asthma among Hispanic children in Costa Rica, the objective of this proposal is to leverage the family-based design to examine how single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and metabolites act on lung function among Hispanic children with asthma.
