Michael Traeger

Research Fellow

Michael Traeger is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. Michael received a Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Melbourne in 2017, and is also a research fellow at the Burnet Institute in Melbourne, Australia, where he completed his PhD in 2022.

Michael's doctoral research focused on the interplay between HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) implementation and the epidemiology and prevention of bacterial STIs among gay and bisexual men in Australia. Michael's research has also focused on monitoring hepatitis C infection in key populations and evaluating Australia's national response to HIV and hepatitis C.

Michael's current research involves analyzing electronic health record data to examine epidemiological trends in HIV and bacterial STIs among priority populations in the US and Australia, and evaluating the impact of public health interventions such as HIV PrEP and antibiotic prophylaxis for bacterial STIs. He primarily works on a multi-site study to evaluate the implementation of long-acting injectable HIV PrEP in the US.

Michael has a particular interest in infectious disease epidemiology, sentinel surveillance systems for HIV and STIs, biostatistics and longitudinal quantitative analysis, and sexual health.
