2021 in Review: Our Most Engaging Research, a Top 10 List

It has been a productive year for Institute faculty, nearly 300 publications, many of those as first- or senior-author. Our clinician-researchers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic kept pace, producing high-impact work on the evolving novel coronavirus and its effect on hospitals and healthcare workers. All investigators faced year two of the pandemic head-on.

The FDA Sentinel System; using epigenetics to measure the effects of breastfeeding; the pharmacogenetics of bronchodilator response; ventilator-associated pneumonia in COVID-19 patients; gestational diabetes risk factors; biologically actionable insights into inhaled corticosteroid  response in asthma patients

Research Recap: Weeks of November 8 – November 19

A biweekly overview of recent studies published by Institute investigators and their collaborators spans a wide variety of topics, including:

Mepolizumab for severe asthma; the global pediatric obesity epidemic; hospital respiratory protection policies in the COVID era; how provider biases may influence PrEP implementation; whether cesarean delivery affects pubertal development; examining the effectiveness of an employee COVID attestation system; and ventilator-associated events.

Jonathan Harland, MD

Jonathan Harland was a psychiatrist at the Atrius Health Burlington practice, and Medical Director of the Center for Education at the Atrius Health Academic Institute. He earned his medical degree from SUNY @ Stony Brook School of Medicine. Dr. Harland has been an exemplary clinician, teacher and physician leader who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to medical education in the Harvard community. He is an Instructor in Population Medicine, Part-time.

Alan Weitberg, MD

Alan Weitberg serves as Medical Director of the Academic Institute. In his first year at Atrius Health, Dr. Weitberg worked to centralize all academic activities at Atrius Health to form the Academic Institute and its unique Center structure - Clinical Research, Education, Analytics & Informatics, and Innovation.
